This vessel started as a small 10 m Cray fishing vessel in 2C survey and has been converted to operate as a marine research vessel operating out of Cygnet Bay on Cape Leveque approximately 200 km north of Broome. The vessel is now in 2B survey with NSCV code compliant accommodation for marine researchers and a small crane has been fitted to facilitate experiments. This somewhat challenging conversion was driven by meeting additional wind heeling requirements imposed by the increase in survey category and the stability requirements of the NSCV code, which are more onerous for small vessels when compared with the uniform shipping laws code formerly in force. In addition to the crane and accommodation the vessel is fitted with sponsons and transom extension to increase stability and support the weight of some additional equipment such as a generator. Modifications to the vessel were made on site by Cygnet Bay Pearls with final stability testing and survey also being conducted on-site. [metaslider id=217]
